There are several highlights that Serenity Helicopters’ tours of the Grand Canyon have to offer. Obviously, soaring through the canyon itself to land at a private landing site inside the canyon and taking in the beauty of this natural wonder is at the top of the list. Some other sights that you will see include the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. Read below to find out a little more about these tour highlights!
The Hoover Dam
The Hoover Dam is a Historic Landmark that was built during the Great Depression. When completed in 1935, it was the most expensive project in United States history totaling $49 million.
The Hoover Dam is quite impressive to see from the air, standing 726 feet tall and spanning 1200 feet.
The dam can store over 6 trillion gallons of water when full and also provides hydroelectric power, producing around 4 billion kilowatts of electricity every year.
Lake Mead
Lake Mead is the largest reservoir in the United States and the 16th largest manmade lake in the world. When it is full, it holds over 26 million acres of water and reaches over 500 feet deep. Unfortunately, Lake Mead is suffering from 19 years of draught, which you can tell from the ring around the lake in pictures, and is at risk of no longer being able to provide hydroelectricity and drinking water.
Lake Mead recreation area includes activities such as boating, fishing, and water skiing. The area contains three different ecosystems and is home to many different kinds of animals. The narrow channels of the lake and jagged mountain ranges surrounding the area make it interesting to view from the air.
The Grand Canyon
The Grand Canyon itself is obviously the star of the show. Attracting more than 5 million visitors per year, the beauty and grandeur of the canyon is something that you have to see with your own eyes to truly understand. And seeing it from the air is a magical way to take it all in unlike any other.
As one of the world’s seven natural wonders, the Grand Canyon is rich with geography and history. We invite you to learn and experience this history and geography with us. You will also have the chance to land 4,000 feet below the rim of the canyon at our private landing site to explore. This is an experience that cannot be beat!
These are just a few of the tour highlights that you might experience flying with us. Some others include enjoying a meal at our private landing site and amazing desert sunsets on our sunset tours. Here is what some of our guests have to say about their experiences:
“The Hoover Dam was Amazing, the Grand Canyon and picnic were Awesome, but most of all the ease of booking, the energetic and professional staff of Serenity Helicopters, and the high energy and commentary/history lessons from our pilot Mike “Mad Dog” Davis made the entire experience Phenomenal. 22+ Years in the U.S. Navy, 26 countries, 75+ cities stateside and abroad and this trip was in the TOP 3 experiences overall. Words cannot do it justice. If you are on the fence about it, just know that YOU are worth it! Spend the money on an experience that will make you smile for many moons to come. You will thank yourself when you are telling the story of your flight long after it is over and you are grinning from ear to ear still. Life is about the experiences, and this is a fantastic one.” – ricksage77
“100% fulfilled from start to finish! With his “geological” knowledge, but also his very safe flying style, Mike completely convinced and inspired all guests. After the very quiet, interesting and stunning flight to the Grand Canyon the next highlight was presented. Mike laid a table with a white tablecloth, lovingly placed a plant as decoration on the table. He served the dinner we had previously chosen in the van. It was a unique experience – the silence of the canyon, the excellent dinner with a glass of wine and the interesting and amusing anecdotes of Mike. The crowning glory of the beautiful excursion was the flight home over Lake Mead at sunset – a birthday trip couldn’t have been better.” – FrancoM2772
“This helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon was the highlight of my first wedding anniversary. We were treated to a 35 minute ride with a more scenic adventure than most. We actually landed in the middle of the Canyon where we were on a summit overlooking the River below and mountains in the distance. We were treated to a magical and delicious Gourmet Dinner. We took several pics, walked around for a while and then we had to head back. But going back was even more pleasurable. He played soothing beats while we cruised back with full bellies while watching the beautiful sunset. Serenity Helicopters is top notch!” – Lene A
